Progress! – Lorraine’s House

The Wet Room: Lorraine’s Home

The Wet Room

We wanted to maximize the space we have for the bathroom. A wet room with no shower door and wall mounted fixtures seems to be the best way to use the small bathroom space that we have created for Lorraine.

Second Session: Framing on Lorraine’s

This session we tackled framing and sheathing. Our amazing roof required us to custom cut all of our studs and rafters. We learned the importance of layout and keeping everything square and level.

Foundation Fun!

I am happy to report that after eight long days of shoveling in the hot Utah sun we tackled the majority of our foundation! There were a few bumps in the road. For example, the gravel trucks could not make it all the way down Lorraine’s treacherous res road to deliver our gravel. They ended up dumping all of it at the end of the road. It took half of our team 4 days of shuttling this stuff in the Tacoma.

Gravel and Sand Moving!

Gravel and Sand Delivery

The other half of the team was busy moving dirt and getting our thickened edge slab dug out. All in all it was a lot of shoveling. We had the hole dug, the form work done, the blue board in place, gravel laid, and the rebar down by Thursday. This gave us two days to pour 740 square feet of concrete. Thanks to the help of the Sombrero team and the interns, we got 85% rocked out. Unfortunately, we ran short on concrete and couldn’t quite make it. We completed the third finished floor portion of the slab at the beginning of the next session.
