The students from the University of Utah have been given the task of building 2 prefabricated homes for 2 completely different clients and sites.
Our Westwater clients, Tyrone and Angie Hutchins and thier 4 daughters, live on Navajo owned land next to the City of Blanding, a development known as "Westwater".
Our Monument Valley clients, Don and Sharon Stryker, are educators wanting to return to Sharon's families land close to Monument Valley on the Navajo reservation.
The home sites and families are very different. The sites are far from the campus of Bluff, up to a 100 mile commute for the students as they dig foundations and build. The needs of the families differ significantly, but their enthusiasm to be part of dbB is shared. With the design similarities between homes, great distance between projects, and the task to explore the architecture of prefabrication, most of the work this semester will take place on the Bluff campus of dbB. Stay tuned to the blog for updates and progress. Students are currently building the homes and anticipate completion in May, 2011.
